Nicola Wake

I am an egg artist. I don’t paint on eggs but I work in a variety of mediums including tufting, photography, collages, printmaking and clay; all vibrant and playful mediums to explore new perspectives on the everyday egg.

My art is a playful response and challenge to a world where we may see only one simple side to things we encounter. With the fried egg as a focus, I ask what different roles and forms can we visualize it in? I see eggs in rugs; eggs that fly in the sky and take on a form on a living being, eggs as a frame for patterns. By presenting them in a breadth of different worlds, I’m offering new points of view, encouraging exploration of the world through different perspectives on the everyday, all in a fun and playful manner.
